PCORI Releases their Draft Priorities

PCORI released a draft of their National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda for public comment. The PCORI Board, which is responsible for funding research, is asking for a 55 day public comment period to discuss and solicit feedback from patients, caregivers, professionals, and the general public on the research priorities.

In his remarks at the  2nd Annual Forum on Achieving Patient centeredness , Marc Boutin, executive vice president and COO at the National Health Council, discussed the important differences between the three major players in the process: the patient, the consumer, and the patient advocacy organization. The House of Representatives passed their health reform package - the Affordable Health Care for America Act - last Saturday night by a vote of 220 to 215. With all of the provisions packed into the 2,000-page bill, what's in this historic legislation for comparative effectiveness research (CER)?

AARP Supports Good CER

Recently the AARP announced its support of S. 1213, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Act – the same Senate CER bill that we at PIPC support.

From the AARP letter to Sens. Baucus and Conrad:

“[S. 1213] would create an independent Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute and provide increased, stable funding to maintain our investment in research comparing the effectiveness of various treatments for given conditions.”
